Being Peace
Mascari, Brooke. September 12th, 2024
Have you ever wondered why we call ourselves “Human Beings” when we spend most of our lives as “Human Doings?”
Beneath this doing, there exists a field of pure Being. This is our essential self and the home of all peace.
We are going to take a few mindful moments to access this state of Being to activate peace in all areas of our lives.
Perhaps sit comfortably and relax your shoulders, jaw, tongue, hands, feet, and body for a moment. Allow your spine to be straight but not uncomfortably rigid. Maybe close your eyes for a few moments and take a few cleansing deep breaths.
Breathing in through your nose, and releasing through your mouth. Release any stress or busyness in your mind for a few moments.
When we are not at peace, our body tightens. Use your breath to expand and relax your body.
Take notice of your mind. What have been your recent thoughts and emotions? This is where all of our “Doing” comes from. Breathe into the thoughts and emotions. See if they can calm down; even if it’s just a little bit.
Author Elizabeth Gilbert states,
“We often don’t realize that somewhere within us all, there exists a supreme Higher Self who is eternally at peace.”
This supreme self is always with us! Watching, waiting, and ready to bring us into peace whenever we tap in.
Let’s go there now and enliven some of its peaceful qualities.
First, notice the effortlessness of your breath and how it flows in and out with ease. And then bring your awareness to the center of your heart/chest. Be aware of your breath here.
Your heart is the home of peace in your body.
Let us focus on and set our intentions with some words. Dwell on each word momentarily, allowing it to radiate through your body. Repeat the word a few times silently to yourself, perhaps remembering a moment when you experienced this word profoundly in the past.
Harmony
Joy
Love
Peace
Now, let’s repeat these words but this time, set the intention to feel them in your heart, radiating outward to the whole world. No effort, just a subtle intention. These qualities never evaluate or judge anything or anyone. Send them to everyone, everywhere.
Harmony
Joy
Love
Peace
The Indian text, the Bhagavad Gita states, “Only when we are established in the state of Being, will our actions be pure and peaceful.”
Become aware of your breathing again; not forcing or concentrating. Just effortlessly notice your breath as it flows in and out. Allow everything to settle.
Do you feel the silence and peace?
That is your inner Being; your Spirit. It is always with you.
As you go about your days, perhaps pause now and again to take a few calming breaths. Connect with your inner silence; your Being. Then repeat silently to yourself, “Harmony, joy, love, peace.”
Deepam Chatterjee states, “When you are totally at peace with yourself, nothing can shake you.”
Take a few deep breaths and perhaps gently stretch your body.
Remember that Being is always within you; regardless of what’s going on around you, you can always access the peace within you.
Blessings on your journey to perfect health and happiness,
Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or experiences from this time of mindfulness as we access peace together.
